Continuous Passive Motion:

Continuous Passive Motion Therapy, or CPM, is commonly used by orthopedic surgeons to aid in patient recovery following an injury or surgery to a joint. After a surgery, many patients will experience pain which can lead to a tendency to not move the joint adequately enough to regain proper range of motion.  As a result, the tissue around the joint becomes stiff and scarring occurs.

A Continuous Passive Motion machine is applied after surgery, the joint can be moved through a range of motion for an extended period of time. This use can significantly reduce the recovery time by increasing the range of motion, promote healing of the joint surfaces and soft tissues, reduce the development of adhesions and scar tissue and decrease stiffness of the joint.

Lymphedema Therapy:

Lymphedema is a condition of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system. The arms and legs are most commonly affected though the condition may occur in other areas of the body.

Compression pump technology is often used to treat this condition.  The technology utilizes a multi-chambered pneumatic sleeve with overlapping cells to promote movement of lymph fluid, enabling more efficient lymphatic drainage.

Respiratory Care:

New York Home Healthcare (NYHHC) provides a broad range of equipment to treat a variety of respiratory conditions.  Recognizing that much of this equipment is best used by trained professional, NYHHC maintains multiple licensed Respiratory Therapists on staff who are on-call around the clock.

NYHHC offers the following equipment:

  • Cough Assists
  • Nebulizers
  • Oxygen
  • Liquid Oxygen
  • Compressed Oxygen

  • Ventilators

Sleep Apnea Therapy:

Sleep Apnea is a common breathing disorder in which an individual has one or more breathing pauses or shallow breaths while sleeping.  These pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes and can occur 30 times or more an hour.  As a result, the quality of an individual’s sleep is negatively impacted and they are more likely to suffer from additional conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) is often used to treat Sleep Apnea.  This therapy works by increasing the air pressure in your upper airway, preventing the airway from narrowing or collapsing entirely.  NYHHC provides a variety of PAP devices to treat Sleep Apnea, including Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Automatic Positive Airway Pressure (APAP) and Bi Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP).  In addition, NYHHC provides a broad range of masks and other accessories for PAP devices.

Support Surfaces:

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) is a therapeutic technique using a vacuum dressing to promote healing in acute or chronic wounds, and to enhance healing of first and second degree burns.  The continuous vacuum used in NPWT draws out fluid from the wound, increasing blood flow to the area and speeding recovery.  New York Home Healthcare specializes in the use of NPWT and has a dedicated nurse on staff to assist patients and customers with the use of the therapy.
